Interaction with State Legislators Promotes Community Corrections and Best Outcomes

Jason at Statehouse representing OCCA Advocacy, programming updates, and attainable outcomes all contribute to important support and information needed to effectively utilize community corrections programs.

On March 4, 2026, the Ohio Community Corrections Association (OCCA), Oriana House, and other industry leaders, met with legislators to discuss accomplishments, needs, and challenges related to rehabilitation and community corrections in Ohio.

Jason Varney (shown above), president of OCCA and vice president of Oriana House correctional programs in north central and southeast Ohio, spoke at the OCCA reception. Representative Gary Click said of Varney, "Jason is an incredible source of wisdom and has great insight into the corrections facilities in Ohio."

Oriana House President/CEO Jim Lawrence, Executive Vice President Mike Randle, and Program Manager of the Reserve Center and Compass Court in Marietta Eric Brockmeier joined Varney in Columbus. Brockmeier is an at-large member of OCCA's Executive Committee.

Senators Kristina Roegner, Casey Weinstein, Nickie Antonio, Kent Smith, Tom Patton, and Bill Reineke, along with Representatives Kevin Ritter, Steve Demetriou, Gary Click, Darnell Brewer, Bill Roemer, Bride Rose Sweeney, Chris Glassburn, Eric Synenberg, Veronica Sims, Derrick Hall, and their aides, were included in the schedule of 30-minute meetings throughout the day with Oriana House staff.

Opportunities like this are significant in showing how community corrections programs are vital to safe communities and successful rehabilitation and reentry for criminal justice involved individuals.
